ELIGIBILITY
1. The contest is open to songwriters who are 18 years of age or older on the date of song submission. Any entrant who is a minor in his or her jurisdiction of legal residence will be required to obtain and submit written permission from his or her parent or legal guardian to participate in the contest.
2. All submitted songs must be original, unpublished (or self-published) songs that have been written or co-written by the entrant(s).
3. Artists from anywhere in the world are eligible to enter. However, all finalists selected to perform at the live finals event, The CHALLENGE in San Diego, CA, must pay for their own travel and lodging expenses.
SUBMISSION POLICY
4. Each entry must be an original musical composition (“composition”) for which the contestant retains the copyright and authority to submit and perform the composition in the contest. Payment for each composition entered in the contest must be made at the time of submission. If performing to a music track, participants must bring their own music track on a digital device that can be plugged into the house speaker system at the location of the auditions. Alternatively, participants may perform a capella (with no music track).

HOW TO SUBMIT
6. Submit songs through the registration link found here. Submitted content must be accessible by web URL. No file submissions allowed. All required information is in the registration link.
FINALISTS AND WINNER SELECTION
7. A total of twelve (12) finalists will be selected to perform live in the final round of The CHALLENGE on the TBD stage.
8. The finalists will be selected from their web URL submissions by a panel of judges. The finalists will then be placed into four groups of three at random.
9. Group 1 finalists will perform one song each. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and move on to the final round. Group 2 finalists will perform one song each. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and move on to the final round. Group 3 finalists will perform one song each. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and move on to the final round. Group 4 finalists will perform one song each. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and move on to the final round. Four (4) finalists will then move onto the Final Round.
FINAL ROUND
10. The CHALLENGE is both a performance AND songwriting competition. As such, all finalists will be judged equally on both performance and songwriting.
11. The format for the final round is as follows: each of the four semi-finalists will perform one original song of their choosing in front of a panel of judges and a live audience. Two finalists will then be selected from the four, and these two finalists will then perform one additional original song. From these two, the overall winner will be selected. They will win The CHALLENGE.
PRIZES
12. The overall winner will be the only contestant receiving a prize. The overall winner will receive $1,000 in studio time. The overall winner will have the opportunity to enter into music recording agreement with KTGIJN Records.
NOTIFICATIONS & WAIVERS
13. Selected finalists will be notified by email and each winner must provide the following items to be eligible to compete in The CHALLENGE finals:
(i) an affidavit confirming:
(a) that the winner meets the contest eligibility requirements,
(b) that his or her song is original and unpublished, and
(ii) a publicity release (collectively, the “Affidavit”), all within 14 days of the notification date. The failure to sign and return the Affidavit within Fourteen (14) Days or the submission of false or inaccurate information will result in immediate disqualification and an alternate winner will be selected. Affidavits for winners under 18 years of age at the time of submission must be countersigned by a parent or legal guardian. All Affidavits are subject to verification by KTGIJN and its agents. Each contestant’s submission constitutes his or her permission to use his or her name, likeness, and voice for future advertising and publicity purposes without additional consideration. KTGIJN retains the exclusive right to use in perpetuity any media inclusive of ancillary rights created in conjunction with The CHALLENGE contest including but not limited to; live recordings, video, webisodes, and photographs. Participants grant KTGIJN the use of this archival material in perpetuity.
RESTRICTIONS
14. This contest is void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules, and ordinances apply. Entries must be unpublished original songs. Submissions are not subject to a time limit. But if you are selected as one of our twelve finalists, your live performance of one original songs on the finals contest stage must meet a strict six (6) minute limit or you will be penalized.
15. The song MUST be performed by the song contest entrant. Co-written songs may be submitted, but the person who enters the song must be the one who is the lead singer of the tune.
16. Must be the contestant's completely original work (modification of another party’s original work is not an original work), must not copy or otherwise plagiarize from any source, and must not use pre-existing music/samples and lyrics not owned by contestant.
17. Must not contain material which is (or promote activities which are), as determined by KTGIJN in its sole discretion, hateful, slanderous, libelous, tortious, sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, inappropriate, violent, the sales of weapons, cruelty, abuse, etc.), discriminatory (based on race, sex, religion, natural origin, physical disability, sexual orientation or age), illegal (e.g., underage drinking, substance abuse, computer hacking, etc.), offensive, threatening, profane, or harassing; or contain material that is threatening to any person, place, business, group or world peace; or contain words or symbols that are widely considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic group; or contain images, words or text portraying nudity, acts of violence, or acts that are or appear to be unlawful or dangerous or in violation of, or contrary to the laws or regulations in any jurisdiction where the entry is created;
18. Must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyrights. Without limiting the foregoing, the entry must not mention or otherwise include any third party trademarks.
DISPUTES
19. Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with KTGIJN and/or The CHALLENGE shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate Federal or state court located in California; (2) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering The CHALLENGE, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will contestant be permitted to obtain awards for, and contestant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the contestant and KTGIJN in connection with The CHALLENGE, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of California without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of California or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of California.
